Atikokan Centennial Museum and Historical Park

Situated on the winding Atikokan River, the Museum of Atikokan and Historical Park exhibits the unique history of the area. Featuring local history exhibits, regional rock samples, a 12,000 year old Barren Ground Caribou antler found at the bottom of Steep Rock Lake, and a Shevlin-Clarke logging locomotive. You will discover the heart and spirit of Atikokan in the museum.

Large artifacts from lumber and mining sites are on display at the outdoor park, easily accessible by a foot bridge outside the museum. The Historical Park is also the landing site for Path of the Paddle, and the Canadian Trail passes the museum. Paddlers are welcome to leave their gear in the museum while they pick up supplies or use the shelter of the Log Cabin porch to repack.

Steeped in a tradition of outdoor activity, Atikokanites have a paddling history from competitive cross-Quetico paddling between the Unites States/Canada to Canada’s Centennial cross-country races and cross-continent solo paddling.
